DSP3 Performances - Nullpointer>>

"For my degree show I got hold of loads of transcripts of recordings from Black box recorders from crashed airplanes and so we took these scripts and recreated them so everyone had parts and then we recorded them all and messed them up using various filters to make it sound like you'd expect them to sound like. They were just tragic, things like somebody saying; 'hey look I can do a loop!' then that being the end of the recording. I did it in the foyer of an office building and deliberately not in a gallery. A few people really liked it but most were upset. I must admit it did scare me when people liked it. I had some people who said they really identified with it, in particular a Vietnam veteran who stayed abit too long" Nullpointer http://www.nullpointer.co.uk

"We've been working together since art school. Last thing we did together was the opening of the FACT centre in Liverpool" Jonny Picher

Nullpointer AKA Tom Betts performing with Jonny Picher [synthesizer, drums etc.]

Nullpointer mixes generative composition and synthesis, using the Pure Data DSP system, utilising a number of live triggers to manipulate and direct the composition which is then translated into geometric visual forms. This creates a unique audio-visual environment for each performance and forms a direct relationship between realtime generation of sound and image.
