Graduate from college and join the Soviet Air Force as a pilot.1957
Become a test pilot.1960
Join the cosmonaut corps and am subsequently chosen as the first person to journey into space.1961
12 April, I orbit the Earth travelling over 40,000 km (25,000 miles) in 108 minutes.1960s
Work as head of the cosmonaut training programme.1968
